Earned Paid Sick Time (EPST)
The District provides earned paid sick time (EPST) to employees based on their position and length of employment. Ten-month employees are granted up to 72 hours of EPST per fiscal year, while 12-month employees receive up to 88 hours. EPST accrual begins on the employee’s date of hire and is available for use after 90 calendar days of employment. It is paid at the employee's regular rate of pay. Employees’ accruals are prorated based on their full-time equivalent (FTE), with specific accrual rates for 10, 11, and 12-month positions. Unused EPST carries over to the following year but is capped at 180 days.
Employees who have worked for the District for over 10 years may be eligible for compensation for unused sick leave upon separation. The payout rate and eligibility depend on the employee's hire date, position, and length of service.
EPST may be used for various reasons, including the employee’s illness or injury, preventive medical care, or care for a family member with a medical condition.
Employees must notify their supervisor in advance when planning to use EPST, providing as much notice as possible, including the expected duration of the absence. For unforeseeable absences, employees should inform their supervisor promptly. For absences of three or more consecutive days, employees may need to provide documentation, such as a doctor’s note.
